Stigmatize...

Lately I've been receiving many books concerning traveling, bikers, and getting lost. My concern is how travelers in general have become "people on the fringe, society dropouts, and/or loners looking for something external but eventually finding something internal." Whatever happened to the need to explore? To roam? To avoid the notion of settling down and establishing roots? The American Dream: white picket fence, a yard, a dog, a job you end up hating, debt due to the need for toys you can't afford because life is perpetual boredom. Has our country simply equated the acquisition of goods with happiness? Why pinpoint those who seek other avenues of elation as "other"? These labels and preconceived notions of happiness break the threads of a country losing its identity.
